Rock Springs guard unit deployed to Iraq

ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. – On Thursday at 3 p.m., a deployment ceremony for 169 Soldiers from the Wyoming Army National Guard’s 1041st Engineer Company was held at the Western Wyoming Community College Auditorium, in Rock Springs.

The deployment is part of the Department of Defense’s rotation plan for forces currently engaged in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Soldiers will be on federal active duty orders for 545 days. The period of active duty can be extended, based on the U.S. Army’s requirements. The Soldiers will be performing security operations at overseas locations.

The 1041st Engineer Company headquarters is in Rock Springs. It has detachments in Afton and Evanston.
After completing deployment preparations in Rock Springs, the Soldiers reported to Camp Shelby, Miss., on July 7.
